NRA - AMERICA'S RIFLE CHALLENGE (ARC)
Occuring on varying Saturdays and Sundays from March thru September - See the monthly calendar and event flyers for exact dates, times, and match fees. This program is led by John Tupta (724) 941-1494; email - dmlscNRA@verizon.net.
The popularity of ARs over the past few years is staggering as millions of gun owners have purchased these rifles for recreational shooting as well as for home defense. To help owners sharpen their skills on this platform, the NRA has developed a unique training and competition event designed to go beyond typical target practice. DMSC is proud to sponsor this program which provides opportunities for all skill levels. While the main firearm used is the AR 15, any magazine fed rifle is acceptable.
Clinics: This program is an entry level opportunity for first-time owners of an AR, youth (12+), and men or women who have considered but hesitate to participate in competitions. NRA Certified Instructors and Range Safety Officers will provide classroom instruction, dry fire practice, and several stages of live fire. This will be a great chance to expand your experience with the AR in a safe and comfortable environment.
Basic Match: Intended for AR owners who are not experienced in action rifle competitions. Shooters will use basic defensive positions at a slow pace to test technique and accuracy. Stages are conducted at varying distances from 100 yards to 7 yards, using the four basic firing positions. Opportunities to shoot from behind barricades, at multiple targets, varying distances, magazine reloads, and using the support shoulder are also part of this competition.
Advanced Match: Intended for experienced competitive shooters, this event builds upon skills utilized in the Basic Matches. Competitors will be required to change firing positions. move through multiple firing points, and reload against the clock. Shooters must have previous experience in action rifle activities such as the Basic Match, Defensive Rifle Classes, etc.
ARC Plus (2 Gun Match): This event couples skills found in the Advenced Match with the combined use of a pistol and rifle. As this is not an entry level activity, participants must have prior experience in an Advanced Match at DMSC.
